Grant, Harrison and Pendleton Counties ... a place in time and an area unto itself
A story about early settlers & their descendants in the
Crooked Creek area of Kentucky
Our “Blog” ... in summary
I found my first “long-lost” (actually never new existed) cousin by way of an Internet posting that was over two years old! Pam Strausbaugh posted looking for information about Herman Miller who was my great-grandfather. My dad had relayed a family story told by his dad about how his father Herman Miller had been shot and killed in Berry, Kentucky. At the time it was interesting but not all that relevant; my life was focused on my children and my work, not ancient history. But my contact with Pam (Pearl Ada Miller) was much later, my dad had passed on and I had gotten the “genealogy bug” (in case you are not aware, it is a virus!) and was beginning to get active in my research. Pam led me to Minnie Mae (Miller) Vessing, my second cousin. Minnie Mae had begun her family history search in 1975 and was a patron of local libraries and court houses in Pendleton, Grant & Harrison Counties of Kentucky ... the area she had lived all her life. We first met in June of 2006 and since have become very close in our research sharing and as family. After many trips to Kentucky, copy sessions & sharing, Minnie Mae and I decided we would write a book about our family. We continue with that dream of writing a family history but recognize the changing times and have decided we may never get a book into print, and besides who would want it. The Internet and it’s explosive power with changing technologies is moving so fast, the only thing we can be reasonably certain of is that it will be digital and it will change continuously with the endless flow of brilliant technological changes. So ... here is our book for now, about our extended family, created & written in collaboration with my dear cousin Minnie Mae.
